Toy Bags & Boxes

Plastic transparent toy boxes with colourful and cheerful prints from Hip Lik Packaging Products Fty Ltd

Biodegradable materials have helped Hong Kong packaging manufacturers carve out a lucrative niche in the international packaging industry. Nowhere is this more important than the toy bags and boxes sector, which consumes an ever-increasing amount of packaging each year.

Hip Lik Packaging Products Fty Ltd, for instance, uses PVC, PP and PET to manufacture all kinds of transparent plastic packaging and folding boxes for major markets in the US, Europe and Hong Kong.

"Our PP and PET materials are environmentally friendly and have become more popular in recent years," says senior marketing officer Fiona Chu. "Our customers are concerned about the environment and so are we."

Hip Lik's factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland produces OEM-based products. Customers can expect delivery 2-3 weeks after an order is confirmed, depending on the complexity of the product and the season when the order takes place.

The company's minimum order size depends on the type of plastic material used, although most orders range from 5,000-10,000 pieces. FOB Hong Kong prices are available on request.

"Offset printing is one of our strengths," says Chu. "So many customers request our offset printing on boxes."

Shih Ka Plastic Boxes Fty is also changing to meet the ever-evolving needs of modern business. Founded in 1989, the OEM-based company has outgrown its 11-year-old factory in Shenzhen on the mainland and plans to move into new quarters this June. The new factory will double in size to accommodate growing business while the company maintains its office in Hong Kong.

Shih Ka's imports PVC from Taiwan and PETG from the US to meet the needs of major markets in the UK, US, Australia and France. FOB Hong Kong prices range from US$0.10 each for the "bananas" PETG folding box to HK$3.50 each for the "wicked sista" PVC bag.

"If our clients want biodegradable, then that's what we produce," says manager Brenda Ting. "We conform to the needs of our customers."

The company produces about three million pieces per month. Minimum orders are 5,000 pieces and delivery takes 2-3 weeks after order confirmation.

Blister and plastic packaging are the forte of Perfectech Int'l Packaging Products Co Ltd, which specialises in blister packaging and all kinds of plastic folding boxes and soft plastic items made from PVC, PET, PP and PS. "We are expanding our website to let customers see how we are able to accommodate them," says Perfectech senior sales manager Patrick Ip.

Major markets are in the US and Europe with minimum orders depending on the type of item ordered. Delivery time can take 20-30 days after order confirmation for blister packaging and 30-45 days for paper packaging. FOB Hong Kong prices are available on request.

Perfectech has ISO 9001 certification for its products, which are manufactured from raw materials sourced in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. It utilises six factories on the mainland in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Dongguan. Perfectech's offset printing operation will soon move to Dongguan from Shenzhen and its 500-strong workforce will double in size to handle growing business.

Rainbow Light Enterprise Ltd, founded in 1980, also looks to the mainland for most of its packaging materials. Specialty items are sourced from Taiwan, Korea and Japan. Rainbow can deliver a wide range of products and the minimum order size is determined by the material. Aluminium bags, for example, require a 50,000 piece minimum order as the size of the bag is important as well as the thickness of the style. Delivery time after order confirmation can be as short as two weeks.

"We have so many kinds of products," says assistant sales manager Terence Mar. "We always have new products coming up. We listen to our clients and produce new styles and new ranges."

Rainbow's major markets are in North America, Europe, Japan and Hong Kong. Its factory on the mainland in Guangdong uses PP, PE, PO, PET, EVA and CPP. Materials are imported from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the mainland. FOB Hong Kong prices are available on request.

Rainbow believes in meeting customer requirements. "If a company requests biodegradable materials, Rainbow will produce environmentally friendly products," says Mar.
