Presentation makes all the difference when it comes to many products, but especially jewellery and watches. No one knows that better than Hong Kong packaging manufacturers, who make a wide range of stylish containers designed to appeal.
For example, Hang Lee Products Mfr Ltd's range includes watch boxes (for both individual and multiple watches), jewellery boxes and multifunction boxes made from wood or paper with different lining materials.
Its range of products is designed in-house and is in line with current trends, though the company also manufactures products to a customer's design. The minimum order is 3,000 pieces and prices vary depending upon the model and the materials used. Hang Lee's main markets are the US and Europe and delivery is 25 days after order confirmation.
Kingbox (Asia) Ltd, meanwhile, has a delivery time of approximately 45-60 days for its range of boxes for rings, bracelets, watches, watch collections and jewellery.
The boxes, which are made from paper, plastic or wood with a variety of linings including US skivertex, Italy pigtell and UKvelvet, are popular in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia. "No single finish is more popular than another as customers have different requirements, but new material and design is more popular," explains sales and marketing manager Chammie Mok.
Minimum orders vary depending upon the product, but range from approximately 200-1,000 pieces, while prices vary on model and finish. For example, jewellery box model K8259J is US$7.41 per piece for a minimum order of 200 pieces, while watch box model K1728UCS costs US$3.90-5.85 per piece and the minimum order is 1,000 pieces.
Over at ERS, there is an extensive range of packaging for jewellery and watches, including the unique Tech Winder box that will keep a watch wound. "Our patented one-knob control, 12-function Tech Winder series is very easy to use," claims director Raymond Louie. "A simple turn of the knob will set it to any watch brands' winding requirements."
Louie says the Tech Winder caters to the increasing number of people who collect manual or automatic mechanical watches. "This includes affluent collectors of the high-end Swiss watch category, and the younger generation who are into the more trendy European and Japanese mechanical watches," he adds.
Prices for the Tech Winder series range from US$89-254 each, depending upon the model, the finish and the number of watches it holds. The minimum order value for all the company's boxes is US$3,000 and delivery is 35 days after order confirmation.
Louie credits many reasons for remaining competitive and is passionate about the product range. "We stay competitive by introducing new models regularly, design, register and patent our products, and provide an immaculate hand-finished wood surface, which is the best in the industry," he insists.
"We also have the best warranty service in the industry and our own service centres in the US, Hong Kong and Europe to provide warranty services direct to consumers."
Similarly competitive is Elegante Arts Packaging Co Ltd, which has prospered for almost 20 years through a combination of design and quality. "We concentrate on design and use the latest technology to ensure the highest quality, which keeps us competitive," says marketing manager Eric Yeung.
The company, whose main market is the US, manufactures both packaging and display products for jewellery and watches. Its display products feature movable supports and sides, which provide maximum flexibility for product presentation.
Prices vary from US$0.20-10.00 per piece, depending upon the item, finish and materials. The minimum order is negotiable as the company caters to both wholesalers and retailers, with delivery 45-90 days after order confirmation.
Yeung believes that product trends are largely driven by custom demands. "Customer requirements differ from style to materials, and this affects product trends," he explains. "A current trend is for metallic finishes and materials."
Creating its own trend is Lepi China Ltd, which has recently introduced a new range of jewellery cases that feature handles. "The handle series has proved very popular since its introduction in May and we have received many orders for the Christmas season," explains senior manager Pat Mo. "We believe it is popular because it is different from the traditional design."
Minimum order value for the leatherette paper and art paper products is US$3,000. FOB Hong Kong unit prices for the handle series range from US$1-4 with delivery in 35-45 days to major markets such as the US, Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Taiwan.
According to Mo, other trends include new colours and finishes in traditional paper materials. "The coming season will see the introduction of soft, pastel shades as well as sparkling metallic finishes, with traditional paper materials remaining the most popular," she predicts, adding that Lepi already has products available that cater to these emerging styles.
Which is why luxury goods manufacturers need look no further than Hong Kong for the very latest in stylish, quality and competitively priced watch and jewellery packaging.
