Spoiled For Choice
This purple collection of paper products with delicate floral prints from QP (HK) Ltd includes photo frames, memo holders, wine boxes and letter sets
For example, 1982-established QP (HK) Ltd began as a small printer producing packaging boxes and manuals for domestic manufacturers. Over the years, the company has evolved into a diversified provider of paper products and services, while expanding to international markets.
"We position ourselves as a one-stop shop, with services ranging from the idea to R&D and sample to actual production along with comprehensive pre-press, printing and post-press services," says marketing manager Zera Leung.
The ISO 9002-, ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified OEM/ODM manufacturer produces stationery, puzzles, board games, cards and packaging boxes. High-quality stationery forms the largest segment, and includes notebooks, letter sets, envelopes and memo pads. Production capacity is 800,000 sheets per day.
Typical FOB Hong Kong unit prices are US$1.10 for a letter set with 10 postcards, 10 sheets and 10 envelopes and US$0.96 for an A5, spiral notebook.
Minimum order is 5,000 pieces with delivery 4-5 weeks after order confirmation for simple items and 5-6 weeks for peak season orders, while Europe and the US are major export markets. "We are also hoping to sell in Australia and Japan," maintains Leung.
Specialising in sticky and non-sticky memo cubes, Hanson Fullwin Paper Products Mfy Ltd manufactures about 100,000 items each month at its factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland.
Established in 1998, the OEM firm uses wood-free paper, art board and cardboard for its products. "Memo cubes are our biggest sellers," says manager Jackie Tse. "We also make writing pads, diaries, puzzles, flower windmills and box files."
A special feature of its memo cubes is side printing, which involves an added degree of skill. "We can print flowers, cartoons or messages," says Tse.
The FOB Hong Kong unit price for a memo cube, based on orders for 5,000 pieces, ranges from HK$7 (7.5x7.5x7.5cm) to HK$9 (9x9x9cm). The minimum order value is US$1,500, and delivery is 30 days after order confirmation.
Another item is a paper windmill. "Our battery/non-battery paper-flower windmills will make a cheerful sight in any shop window," says Tse, "and they also make excellent promotional items." They sell for HK$2.80 each without batteries or HK$4.80 each with batteries. Export markets include Europe, the US, Japan and the mainland.
Multi Art Industries Ltd, established in 2001 as a subsidiary of T&K Advertising & Printing Co Ltd, has a background dating back more than 20 years. The firm specialises in designing paper gifts and premiums.
Children's items, such as toy suitcases, packs of stationery and fantasy jewellery kits, are particular favourites. "The suitcases are very popular and are handmade with hand-stitching on the sides. We produce about 100,000 per year," says account manager Angel Tam.
Made of greyboard wrapped in printed art paper, the suitcases are priced from US$1.50-3.00 each FOB Hong Kong. "We try to make our products functional, and use paper techniques that allow them to last for a long time," Tam explains, noting that the company's range extends to cosmetic boxes for adults.
Minimum order is usually 5,000 pieces per item, with 30-35 days required for delivery after confirmation of pre-production sample. The ISO 9001-certified firm carries almost 100 items aimed at children under 10 years old and exports to the UK, France, Canada and Japan. "We are happy to accept orders for premiums, which represent about half of our total business," says Tam.
Leeko Int'l Co Ltd is an acknowledged authority in the manufacture of luxury shopping bags. "We use high-grade paper and treatments such as lamination, spot UV varnishing, hot stamping and embossing to create the right look for our clients," says marketing manager Fred Leung.
High-end brand names frequently grace the company's tailor-made shopping bags. "We are a paper bag specialist and have been in this field for more than 10 years," says Leung, noting that production at a well-equipped offset printing production plant in Dongguan on the mainland reaches two million bags per month.
FOB Hong Kong unit prices for 200x100x230mm shopping bags featuring art paper with a glossy lamination start at US$0.60. Exports go primarily to the UK, Germany, France, Australia and the US, and the minimum order is 1,000 bags for standard delivery one month after order confirmation.
Leeko, which can provide matching boxes for its shopping bags, is also known for its greeting cards and board books for children. "We offer the unique packaging set to many prestigious customers, and our punctual delivery is always greatly appreciated," says Leung.
With Hong Kong's large and versatile printing and paper product industry, buyers are happily spoiled for choice.
